How it works & community guidelines
Three steps to begin
Create your writer identity, create a story project with its nest, then use “Go on an Adventure” to log your work. Choose a skill, enter what you actually did, check the XP total, and save.
Skills and XP
Each session adds the same earned XP to its chosen skill and your overall total. Skill levels describe that craft; your overall level combines your sessions. Equipment, your featured hatched dragon, and familiars add their applicable percentage bonuses to base XP. Awards keep up to two decimal places. Changing bonuses later does not change saved awards. Levels continue scaling without a maximum.
- Drafting: new words, 1 XP per 10 words.
- Revision: words worked through, 1 XP per 10 words. Record new words separately to increase manuscript length.
- Editing: minutes polishing language and correctness, 1 XP per minute.
- Worldbuilding: settings, cultures, magic systems, and story-world development, 1 XP per minute.
- Outlining: plotting, scene planning, and story structure, 1 XP per minute.
- Research: pages consulted or minutes spent investigating subjects for a writing project, 1 XP per chosen unit. Optional time is context and is not counted twice.
- Critiquing: minutes giving useful feedback, 1 XP per minute.
- Fellowship: check-ins and sprints earn 5 base XP; meaningful encouragement earns 10. Tavern interactions apply their displayed award.
Coin Pouch and Market
Earn 1 gold per 10 XP from newly saved activities. Fractions carry forward; your Coin Pouch shows whole gold you can spend. Spending never reduces XP or levels. Each activity earns gold once. Editing, removing, or restoring it does not award gold again. Imported project starting progress earns neither XP nor gold.
Existing members received a one-time launch grant equal to their overall XP, at 1 gold per XP. Previous equipment access was replaced by a free Favorite Pen, Lucky Charm, dragon Plush Companion, and permanently owned Water Bottle. Historical XP and bonuses stay unchanged.
Your Favorite Pen and Lucky Charm each start at +1% to one selected skill. The Plush Companion starts at +1% to all eight skills. Purchased Writing Tools and Focus Items start at +2% to every skill listed for the item. Purchased Comfort Items grant +2% to all eight skills. Choose Your Own is free starter equipment in every category and follows that category’s upgrade rules.
Permanent equipment stays owned when you switch items. Equip one item per slot. Writing Tools can upgrade to +5%; Focus Items to +3%; Comfort Items to +2%. Upgrades belong to that individual item and retain its supported skills. The Market shows the next bonus and price before you buy an upgrade.
Provisions
Water Bottle ownership is permanent and has no passive bonus. Water Bottle and custom refills cost 5 gold and grant +1% to the selected session skill. Coffee, Tea, Chocolate, and Snacks cost 10 gold per use and grant +2% to that session. Buy quantities into inventory, then explicitly choose at most one provision when logging a new session. The preview shows its extra XP. A successful save consumes one use; cancellation or a failed save consumes nothing. Session provisions stack with applicable equipment and companion bonuses. Editing a saved session does not consume another provision.
Gold, equipment ownership, upgrades, and unused provisions are saved to your account across devices. Restoring a writing-room backup keeps your current Coin Pouch and inventory and does not repay the launch grant.
Featured companions
One featured hatched dragon grants +3% to its assigned skill at every later stage. Red, Green, and Orange support Worldbuilding; Black and White support Research; Blue and Purple support Outlining. Metallic and gemstone specialties remain unchanged. Familiars grant a single +3% Fellowship bonus, regardless of how many you have.
Existing progress
Storycraft is now Worldbuilding. Earlier sessions keep their saved XP and bonuses; they are not reclassified as Outlining. Outlining starts as a separate skill. Previously earned collection achievements stay earned; new Chromatic and Full Flight collections include Purple.
Your dragon’s journey
Nest → Egg → Wyrmling → Young → Adult → Ancient. Research prepares the egg; Outlining hatches it; Drafting, Revision, and Editing guide the remaining forms. Use your project’s controls when each stage is ready. XP levels and dragon forms progress separately.
Sharing and privacy
Choose “Only me” to keep a session private. You may also share a session while keeping its notes private. Private sessions are excluded from other members’ feeds and totals; your public project and word-count information remains visible. Do not put private notes in public project descriptions, notices, or comments.
Community guidelines
Welcome writers of every genre and experience level. Be kind, respect identities and boundaries, and ask before giving critique. Share only work you have permission to share. Avoid harassment, hate, threats, spam, and sharing someone else’s personal information. Do not repost private work. Use Report on a post or comment to flag a concern. Feedback & support also accepts ideas and bug reports. Reports are reviewed by the site owner; they do not automatically remove content.
